The path to Kjeåsen fjellgard. The tour starts at the parking lot of Sima Kraftverk. Walk along the fjord to Kjeaneset, which is the boathouse for Kjeåsen. The path turns off to the right and winds steeply up the mountainside. Ropes, sticks and ladders are necessary aids along the way.
Fantastic views at several points along the path, and meeting the mountain guard is the reward after the effort. High above the fjord, at an altitude of 600 metres, are the two farms on Kjeåsen. Along the path up to Kjeåsen, people have carried everything they needed on their backs for generations.
One of the houses at Kjeåsen took 30 years to build. All material had to be transported plank by plank. The heaviest burden to Kjeåsen is said to have been a grindstone weighing 90 kilos.
At most, 13 children were invited to Kjeåsen. These went to school in Simadal, and the road to school was difficult. In summer the children went to and from school every day, but in winter the road was too dangerous. Then they lived with relatives in Simadal.
